The Child Health Clinic at the Jones County Health Department offers a variety of services for young and school age children.

The Child Health Clinic provides the following services:

Well Child Services

Well Child visits provide care to your child when he or she is not sick. These visits include a complete health advisory and a comprehensive physical exam.

At these visits, you may expect the physical exam to include the following components:

  • height and weight
  • age appropriate developmental screening
  • vision screening
  • hearing screening
  • blood pressure (3 years and up)
  • vital signs
  • nutritional assessment

  • laboratory procedures: urinalysis, sickle cell, tuberculin skin test, lead screening
  • dental screening/varnish

These visits are also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about your child’s health.

 

It is recommended that you take your child to his/her primary care provider for a Well Child Check-up at the following ages:

  • 6 Months
  • 9-12 Months
  • 15 Months
  • 18 Months
  • 2 Years
  • 3 Years
  • 4 Years
  • 5 Years
  • 6-8 Years

Important: Remember to bring your child’s immunization record with you to the appointment.

Child Service Coordination Program

 

The child Service Coordination Program is a free and voluntary program that helps families like yours find and use community services. We can help with finding medical care, transportation, childcare and/or financial aid. If you have children from birth to age five who qualify for the program, your child service coordinator will work with you in meeting your family’s needs.

Child Service Coordination Program goals are:

  • To connect your family with services for children and families
  • To support your children in reaching their developmental potential
  • To help ensure that children are raised in healthy, safe and nurturing homes

Sick child services are also available.

How much do these services cost?
Payment is calculated on a sliding fee scale based on household size and income. Some services are based on a flat rate as set by the Board of Health. Please bring your Medicaid card or insurance card with proof of income (examples of income include pay stub, tax return, etc.).

How do I visit the health department if I don’t have a car?

CARTS is a transportation service provided to the general public with special emphasis on the provision of such services to the elderly and/or handicapped residents of Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties.

Advanced notice is required to schedule service. The minimum notice to schedule service is no later than 12:00 noon 2 business days prior to the trip.
