Adult Health
A wide range of adult health services are offered to the residents of Jones County. Our health care professionals provide you with medical care and education to help you lead a safe, healthy lifestyle.
Services Include:
Immunizations
Immunizations for adults are available. There are times when boosters for childhood vaccinations are recommended, such as MMR for entering college or tetanus following an injury. Other vaccines are recommended to counter diseases as we age. Perhaps the most well known recommended vaccinations for adults are:
- Flu Vaccine
- Pneumonia
- Hepatitis A&B
- Tetanus Booster
Sexually Transmitted Infections & Diseases (Diagnosis & Treatment)
Sexual health is an important part of overall health. Knowing what is normal for your body can help you discover if there is a change that needs medical attention. For example, knowing the early detection methods of screening for testicular and breast cancer can mean the difference between life and death. STI (sexually transmitted infections) screenings during pregnancy can prevent expecting mothers from transmitting STI’s to their newborns. Clinic staff and Health Promotion Specialists at the health department work in the clinic and in the community to provide information about sexual health and healthy sexual behaviors so that people can have healthy lives and, ultimately, healthy families.
Anyone residing in Jones County who thinks he or she is infected with a sexually transmitted disease (STD), or if he or she has had a risky sexual encounter with someone who has a sexually transmitted disease, can be tested for STDs. HIV testing is also offered. All services are confidential. Parental permission is not required for minors. Most STD services and medicines are free of charge.
Exams and Screenings
We offer complete physical exams including PAP Smears, Pelvic Examinations and other various tests. Laboratory tests such as Cholesterol, Diabetes screening, and Blood Pressure screening can be provided. Other services include:
- Complete Physical Exams (ex. sports or college)
- Management of Minor Gynecological Problems
- Emergency Contraception*
- Pregnancy Testing
- TB Testing & Counseling
- Nutritional Counseling by a Registered Dietitian
- Colonoscopy Referral
*Emergency contraception is not a form of birth control. It can prevent pregnancy if it is taken within 72 hours after intercourse.
Sick adult services are also available.
